Welcome to the World of Svend-Erik Engh
Here you’ll find stories from north and south, from the realms of truth and myth — tales of people, courage, madness, and heart.
I am a storyteller, author, and performer.
I’ve stood on stages in Denmark, Sweden, Spain, and Scotland — told tales in churches and festivals, beneath beech trees and in care homes.
My work ranges from 'Gullrun’s Saga' and 'Danish Folktales' to deeply personal stories of life, loss, and survival.
Some stories are told in Danish, others in English —
all told with spirit, presence, and a touch of Nordic mischief.
Lately, I’ve been sharing the Norse myths — an hour’s journey through the beginnings, the chaos, and the endings of the gods we think we know so well.
If you’re curious, ask the residents at Trekroner Care Home if it was worth listening to.
So wander through, listen, read —
and step into what I call the gently trembling exchange.
If you’ve ever felt the magic of a story well told,
you’ll know exactly what I mean.
BBC Storytelling
We visit Hnitbjorg from Norse mythology with storyteller Svend-Erik Engh.
Hnitbjorg is this mythical mountain where Odin, chief of the gods, stole the mead of poetry from the giant Suttung.
In his second series for The Essay, composer Erland Cooper turns his attention once again to the mythical world. This time he embarks on five imaginary journeys to mythic mountains from around the world, scored by Erland's own music. Accompanying him are writers and storytellers who know all about these legendary locations.
